Debra travels to classrooms and libraries to share her stories. They are interactive, fun and educational: She gleans names supplied by the children for her characters, different kinds of creatures and objects, then they add descriptive words, review sounds that might be used during the story and she goes about weaving all of this information into a story where the children might find themselves screaming, roaring or growling to enhance the story line.
Simply fill out and mail the application with the appropriate information and Debra will contact you within a week of receiving the request with information about rates.
This is a wonderful way to pique your child's interest in reading as they personally become involved in the story. Debra creates unique stories peppered with your child’s name, their friends names and special things they love. These fun stories can be secular or faith-based. (She is a Christian, so that is the easiest for her, but she is certainly willing to research any faith and weave it into a story if that’s what you want.) You decide what you want when you complete the application. These are not like the simple “Johnny lives in Kansas” storybooks you see advertised everywhere. There is plenty of individuality put into these stories and they take time, so please don’t be put off by the 8-10 week turn around. If Debra feels it may take longer (especially for any started completely from scratch), she will contact you. These books are bound simply -- depending on the age of your child, but should withstand many a reading!
SOON-TO-BE PUBLISHED BOOK:
" I am nearly ready to publish a fast-paced fantasy book that is geared for your 7-12 year old chapter-book reader."
It is an exciting story that will keep your reader interested throughout as he or she reads about the fantastic encounters two children have with ancient creatures from the depths of the earth.
Here's an excerpt: "...He reached out and was surprised but not afraid when he saw what looked like fingers and a hand slowly form and grow out from the rock. Then an arm … the forearm, elbow and upper arm grew out, reaching out towards his own hand. Ty could feel a mixture of excitement and fear building in him. He could not stop himself. He had to touch it. But his mind was screaming for him to run -- to get away and be safe. But he had to find out.
Instantly, he could feel a cool but tingling feeling in his hand as they touched. There was a feeling of calm coming over him. The fear gave way to this wonderful feeling of calm. The tingling began to move up his arm. He hesitated. It continued up his shoulder into his neck.
"Too much," he thought. He broke the contact, but didn't pull away too far. The thing didn't come forward ... nor did it retreat.
Ty thought he heard something. He turned his head toward the sound and was startled to see Amy sprawled on the ground, not moving.
His attention was fully on Amy now. He saw that her head had hit the edge of a rock. He spun on his feet and raced to her side. She still didn't move.
"Amy!" Ty gently called to her as he checked the cut on her head. "Amy. Talk to me. Please, talk to me!" As he ran his hand across her injury, he thought, "Well, it doesn't look too bad." He heard her moan then quietly called her name again, "Amy. Talk to me. Are you okay?"
Amy's eyes fluttered and came open slowly. "Oh, my head …" Ty put his hand on her shoulder and told her to lie still. He noticed her eyes kept opening wider and wider. Ty knew that look. He could feel something, too. He turned slowly to where Amy was staring and, yes, standing over them was the rock thing. Towering, actually. It had left the water and followed Ty and now was only inches away. Amy stiffened slightly, not sure what to do. Ty quickly and quietly told Amy what had happened, to try to reassure her. His excitement was obvious.
"Watch, Amy." He reached out to touch the rock. As he reached out, the rock again slowly grew fingers, then a hand, then an arm. Again, the two touched. Ty had no fear. Amy gasped. Not because of what she saw, but what she felt. Ty was still holding onto her shoulder when he touched the rock. A cool, tingling feeling, followed by a calmness she had not felt in a long time came over her and her throbbing headache seemed to vanish.
"Oh, my!" was all she could manage."
Check back later, or better yet, sign up today for an advanced copy and I'll let you know when it's available.
Debra's photographs come from the places she has been--Europe, UK, Ireland, many from locally grown areas in California (and beyond), such as Yosemite, Central Coast, desert, mountains...the list goes on. The subject matter is both natural and “structural”. That means flora and fauna, land- and skyscapes, plus buildings, bridges, fences and the like...whatever strikes her fancy at the time.
These are then turned into pictures ready-to-be-framed, stationery, post cards or note cards. She is even willing to take your personal photographs (if quality allows for enlargement) and make the stationery, post cards or note cards for you. Take a look around and see if anything interests you.
The Gallery page is constantly growing as she uploads more photos. Come back and visit often.
This page is currently under construction.
Nothing active yet...just wait and see!
This page is dedicated to my talented friends who would otherwise go unnoticed. Anything from photographs to jewelry, paintings to purses to. . . well, you've got the idea. Whatever they create, I will post on a rotating basis for you to check out.
